Internet woes…

January 27th, 2009 David No comments

So my internet troubles continue…

Now into week 3! Download speeds are absolutely fine but there is a regular occurance of packet loss on very early hops in the path to my Warcraft gaming server which causes major lag spikes of up to 10 seconds and regular disconnections.

Not good to disconnect just before a Sapphiron air-phase!!

Priest Changes – 3.1

January 26th, 2009 David No comments

Well since I’m a priest in WoW this is hopefully good news for me as atm I am a bit jaded playing what I feel is a fundamentally broken class in comparison to the other healing classes (Druid/Shaman/Paladin)

From Ghostcrawler:

We have some exciting changes planned for priests. Many of them will make it in 3.1 (Ulduar). We hope to have them finalized enough to be able to announce some in the next couple of weeks, but that date might not work out for a number of reasons. The community has a way of overlooking all those caveats such as “at this time” or “assuming nothing changes” and suddenly we are “breaking promises.”

Well lets see what happens down the line maybe they will introduce something to make healing as a holy priest interesting and fun once again.

World of Warcraft – progression

January 25th, 2009 David No comments

Well since I find that I spend a high percentage of my free time playing World of Warcraft.

I thought that I would start to use my under utilised blog to give my thoughts on the game my progression in it and any other general ramblings that I may have.

Well since the expansion came out at the end of last year I’ve managed to level my main up to lvl 80 and begin end-game progression with my guild.

Up till now we’ve cleared the majority of 10 and 25 man content that is available so far in this expansion. The only instances missing are 25-man Eye of Eternity (Malygos) 10-man Sartharian (+ 2/3 drakes) and 25-man Sartharian (+ 1/2/3 drakes). I’m looking forward to completing the available content and getting ready for patch 3.1 where the new 10/25 man raid zone will be introduced, Ulduar.

Outside game but still Warcraft related I’m looking at combat log statistics as well as updating the website. Next on the website will be a link into our DKP system to show the most recent loots gained by our members during our raids.

I’ll try to keep this blog updated and I hope anyone who reads it finds it interesting. I’ll try keep topics as lively as I can!

Console Gaming

December 9th, 2007 David No comments

Just thought I’d write a bit about what I get up to when I’m not at work or playing World of Warcraft. I currently have an XBOX 360 and a medium sized collection of games for it, most of which I find very enjoyable.

My favourites at the moment are:

  1. Assassins Creed
  2. Need for Speed: Pro Street
  3. Mass Effect

I have been playing Assassins Creed more than WOW recently its a very fun game. It appeals to my sneaky side. Nothing better than sneaking up next to my intended target and stealth assassinating him/her and walking on my merry way without being spotted. :P

For a long time now I’ve also considered getting a PS3 but really unsure. Hmm maybe a Christmas present for myself :P

But I am also saving up for my new toy in the new year so maybe I will give it a miss!!

August 17th, 2006 David No comments

Well…Well….

What a weekend and a half. Still feeling rough after it! my new favourite drink is Cheeky Vimto (which I have on good authority is double port + blue WKD….I only found this out the following day once I had drunk buckets of the stuff!)

It was good meeting up with the guys down south and everyone had a good time. Looking forward to doing it again in a couple of years….but won”t wait too long as I”m getting old now can”t take the boozing so much!!

Gratis Virtualization….

August 8th, 2006 David No comments

How about operating system virtualisation for FREE!

I came accross this the other day in my hunt for the ability to run a linux distribution without messy installation and having windows having a hissy fit and knackering all my partitions and master boot record at a later date.I came across VMware Player by VMware This allows you to run a wide range of ”appliances” which other people have created in the paid product and distribute them in a pre-configured state. From command line only full LAMP stack appliances. To full desktop workstation configurations.

The blurb from the website:

VMware Player lets you evaluate new or pre-release software contained in virtual machines, without any installation or configuration hassles. You can also share existing virtual machines with colleagues or friends just use VMware Player to run any virtual machine.

A virtual machine is a computer defined in software. It’’s like running a PC on your PC. VMware Player runs any virtual machine created by VMware Workstation, GSX Server or ESX Server. VMware Player also supports Microsoft virtual machines and Symantec LiveState Recovery disk formats.

As I type I am currently running a desktop setup of Blag 50000 (which is a derivitve of Fedora Core 5). You can find out more about Blag here.

Performance seems to be excellent very responsive. The only slight drawback form the paid product that a desktop user would be interested in is the ability to go full screen mode to get maximum native resolution.

All in all I”d recommend this software to anyone looking for a cheap (can”t get cheaper than £0.00) virtualisation solution for the desktop users needs.

One of my main pastimes at the moment is playing on the mmorpg “World of Warcraft” by Blizard Entertainment. This game is all consuming and fairly eats up many hours.I have a number of characters in all of the various classes on Dunemaul and more recently BladeFist (where a number of my online / offline friends have joined up)I think I will go play some now….

The Ruby Adventure…

August 5th, 2006 David No comments

Have just started to learn a programming language called Ruby.

This is one of the best languages I”ve ever written code for in my entire life. My background is in C++ and Java but the elegance of ruby just blows me away.

As I get into the language in my spare time I will jot down my thoughts on it.I would advise anyone who is tired of the other main languages such as Java and C to give it a try!

You can find out more about Ruby on its homepage.
